Emily Geoffroy is an American clarinetist from Portland, OR. As a clarinet instructor, she has taught students ranging from beginners to master’s candidates from the United States, Europe, China, and Australia, and she is currently Clarinet Faculty at the New York Music Center / NYC Piano Academy. She has performed solo and chamber music across the United States, Germany, and Austria, and has also played Bb, Eb, and Bass clarinets with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, the Newport Symphony Orchestra, Clackamas Repertory Theater, Eugene Ballet’s OrchestraNEXT, and HfM Trossingen’s Hochschul Orchester. Recent summer festival participations include the Atlantic Music Festival, Akropolis Chamber Music Institute, Universität Mozarteum Sommerakademie, and Buffet Crampon Summer Academy.

 

In October 2022 Emily won 3rd Prize at the American International Single Reed Summit Competition in South Carolina, and was honored to be selected to perform in Universität Mozarteum’s Sommerakademie Preisträger Auswahlkonzert in August 2022, as well as to be a finalist in University of Oregon’s 2023 Concerto Competition. Recently Emily has also received acclaim for her chamber music as a winner of Manhattan School of Music’s 2024 Fuchs Chamber Competition with Soprano Jungmin Son and Pianist Dohee Yoon for their performance of Schubert’s Hirt auf dem Felsen trio. Emily has participated in masterclasses with David Krakauer, Michael Webster, Nathalie Lefevre, Andreas Schablas, Zachary Good, and Mike Anderson.

 

A major project has been cultivating a social media platform to showcase the clarinet. Emily uploads almost-daily videos of herself demonstrating fundamental exercises, orchestral excerpts, and solo repertoire to a network of 75,000+ Instagram followers on @emilygclarinet.

 

Emily graduated from University of Oregon in 2023 with a BM in Music Performance and a BA in German Studies. Currently she is pursuing a Masters of Music at the Manhattan School of Music under Charles Neidich. Her former teachers include Dr. Wonkak Kim, Chen Halevi, and Dunja Jennings-Marcum.
